April Updates: Bulletin from the cruelest (and kindest) of months
April is the cruelest month, or so said TS Eliot. For me, this year April was filled with some glorious ups and some grievous downs.
Here are some of the high- and low-lights:
- The Little Dream Journal was published.
- I graduated from the JTS Biblical Hebrew Certification Program. (Why, you might ask? I explain here.)
- And then, the phone rang and an ICU nurse was on the line telling my dad had a stroke while visiting my stepmom in the hospital where she was recovering from a serious illness. Dad and Stepmom are both on the long road to recovery now, and my caregiving journey continues. And even in the midst of this crisis, I have been finding glimmers and wisdom along the way, which I describe here and here.
Yes, I’ve been living the full catastrophe, experiencing all the joys and sorrows of being human—some days, all at once!
A joyful publishing journey … and a brand new dream journal!
Until now, I’ve recorded my dreams in assorted blank books, everything from artist sketchbooks to composition notebooks. In these notebooks I have tweaked, and revised various methods for organizing the important elements of a dream journal entry, including
- the basic dream report,
- the emotions experienced in the dream,
- the date (of course),
- and a quick sketch of the central image or important actions.
Over the past year I’ve been busy designing my ideal guided dream journal, featuring information and inspiration about dreams and a template that includes the elements listed above and more!
The Little Dream Journal also includes space to write long-form entries, blank pages for your artwork, and a pocket in the back in which to tuck scribbled dream notes, ephemera from your day, or anything else! (I use it to stow squares of scrap paper for my half-asleep sloppy dream writing, so I can copy the
notes neatly into the journal later.)
The amazing team at Smith Street Books added beautiful design elements to the pages, bursts of color, and encased it all in a midnight blue cover with twinkling stars and moons.
Since I started recording my dreams in The Little Dream Journal I feel even more connected to my inner dreamscape and creativity than ever before. And coming from me, that says a lot!
