Another World Opens When the Inner Poet Emerges
Dreaming on the Page Writer’s Showcase
“I do not think of myself as a poet, but I felt the poet within me emerge as I did the Dreaming on the Page lessons.” –Dolly R.
Featuring Dolly R.
When we combine dreams and writing we joyfully release the stories and poems that want to be expressed through us. the Dreaming on the Page Writers Showcase will be an occasional column where I sharing the work from writers who recently completed the Dreaming on the Page writing courses. Each piece is selected because, like a memorable dream, it contains beauty and meaning that’s too good not to share.
Two Worlds
By Dolly R.
I walk.
A room, bare white walls
Boxes scatter the floor.
Some are open but all unpacked.
A young boss holds a clipboard,
Looks around, asks,
“Why are you not prepared?”
I exclaim,
“My grandmother is at death’s door.”
As a child, she told me “hold your shoulders straight,
Never slump your back.”
I will not be at her bedside when she dies.
Responsibility is split between two worlds
Without the presence of either.
She taught me about life,
Before a clipboard was in mine.
Artist’s Statement
“I have paid attention to dreams all my life and been intrigued with their mystical intuitiveness. Dreams are dominant in our lives, in our literature, in Biblical and Native American stories, and in numerous other cultures. In the last twenty years, I have participated in dream groups in person and online. One of the teachers I have worked with is Tzivia Gover who I have a lot of respect for as a dream leader. She expanded my vision of dreams to using dreams in writing in her Dreaming on the Page Workshops. I love her amazing techniques and prompts and her encouragement. For this poem, I combined a dream, a real-life situation, and the words of an inspiring poet, as we were instructed to do in one of the lessons in the DOTP course. I do not think of myself as a poet, but I felt the poet within me emerge as I did the Dreaming on the Page lessons.” –Dolly R.
