Dreamers in the S’News: Happy Birthday Walt!
“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.”
–Walt Disney, born Dec. 5, 1901
I love this quote for so many reasons. For starters, it’s inspiring, it’s charming, and it’s amazing to think what can be accomplished when we believe in our dreams. Walt Disney was a dreamer who believed anything was possible.
Another reason I love this quote: For me, too, it all started with a dream and a mouse … or in my case a dream about a mouse. The first dream I remember – the first in a very long line of dreams to follow – was a dream about an inflatable Mickey Mouse doll exploding in the living room of my childhood home. I was about 4 or 5 years old when I reported this first dream … and I’ve been a dreamer ever since.
Thanks, Walt!

Happy Birthday to the man who shaped my entire childhood with his vision, magic, and films – Walt Disney. HappyBirthdayWalt
the first dream i remember having was of running down the middle of the street past the place where my school bus stopped to pick me up. I was trying to get away from a man. In the dream I am terrified, I think he’s after me. the bus stop was a driveway of a house around the corner from mine, an old house that did not fit in with the neighborhood as a whole, was very different from my street, which was made up of new houses, sidewalks, paved driveways. this was an old cottage, with gravel driveway, no sidewalk on this block. it seemed to belong back in another time. feeling into the dream now, the man is not threatening but seems desperate to get to me, wants something from me. I wonder if it’s his desperation that frightens me. over the years, this dream has come to mind many times, seems to keep working away at me.
Hi Joan,
Thank you for sharing your dream and your insight. What you say is so often true: The people/animals/beings who chase us in our dreams usually are pursuing us to impart some knowledge or new way of seeing things … if only we can face them (and thus our fear or resistance). It is amazing how these early dreams hang on, isn’t it? I find new perspectives each time I revisit mine, too.
