Presidents Dream, Too
Presidents’ Day is for Dreamers
Today is Presidents’ Day. It is not just a day to enjoy great bargains offered by retailers, although it’s a good day for that, too. Today is a day to reflect on the contributions of the great leaders of our country.
Having been born on his birthday, I am particularly interested in Abraham Lincoln’s story. I have always felt proud to share a birthday with Lincoln because of his role in eradicating slavery from our country.
In recent years, I learned that Lincoln was a prophetic dreamer, too.
Not only is Lincoln said to have had a life-long interest in dreams, but he had a precognitive dream a couple of weeks before his assassination. In it, he is said to have dreamed that he heard people sobbing in the White House. After investigating where the sobs were coming from, he found the mourners assembled in the East Room, where a corpse was laid out and protected by guards. When he asked who had died, he was told that the President had been killed by an assassin.*
Less than a month later, he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth.
