S’News: Dreaming Up My Next Chapter
Stepping out to make new dreams come true
After much consideration, this summer I stepped down from my role as education director at the Institute for Dream Studies (IDS). This was a difficult decision, as I have been closely aligned with IDS since 2009 when I met IDS founder Justina Lasley at my very first International Association for the Study of Dreams conference. Shortly thereafter, I became a student and two years later, an IDS graduate. Fast-forward to 2016, when I was honored to be invited by Justina to take on a leadership role with IDS.
In these past six years with IDS, I helped bring the program online to reach a more international and diverse group of students. (This was in 2016, several years before the Covid-19 Pandemic made Zoom a household word.) I’ve taught five, year-long, IDS certification trainings, which included 49 students from 11 countries from Mexico to Dubai and Ireland to Australia and some 20 states in the US and a couple of Canadian provinces, too. In total, I helped graduate 33 students who are now bringing a professional approach to dreamwork to their careers as therapists, counselors, artists, psychiatrists, nurses, authors–and much more.
The decision to leave was difficult. I’ve loved working with the students and faculty at IDS. But now it’s time to step into my own work nurturing the connections between dreams, writing, and everyday mindfulness through my business, Third House Moon. After all, one thing I have always emphasized with my students is that as dreamworkers we need to prioritize our own self-care. So, I am stepping out to follow my dreams into my next chapter.
Nurturing new dreams
Not surprisingly, the name of my business, Third House Moon, came to me in a dream: I was handing someone a flyer for an event I was putting on, and as she read over the text she asked, “What’s Third House Moon?” In the dream, I replied: “It’s the name of my business.” When I woke up I did some research and learned the following:
With the Moon in the Third House all the emotional, dreamy qualities of the moon lend you an unearthly ability to communicate and understand emotions; you are gifted with insight, intuition and empathy in matters of the heart.
Perfect! I thought. That’s exactly what I want to do: I want to offer my insight and intuition—as well as my knowledge and expertise—in the service of self-growth and understanding. And I want to help others develop those very qualities in themselves. And so, Third House Moon was born.
Now, I pass that gift along to you. Through 1:1 dreamwork and/or writing sessions, workshops, classes, and books, I help people like you tap into dreams and the subconscious to wake up to their best lives.
Here are some of the ways you can step into this journey with me:
- COMBINE DREAMS AND WRITING: Try a Dreaming on the Page workshop or consultation, designed for dreamers who love to write, and writers who want to tap into their dreams for inspiration and guidance.
- LEARN ABOUT YOUR DREAMS: Befriend your dreams and learn how they can help you wake to your best life with a dreamwork consultation, workshop, or class.
Discover what your dreams mean
- READ AND GROW: Purchase one of my books on sleep & dreams, mindfulness, and everyday joy—including my brand new book for children and the adults who love them, How to Sleep Tight through the Night.
Welcome to Third House Moon! Let’s open all these doors together and discover what your soul longs to say.
Congratulations on your decision and next steps!
Thank you!
