‘To be a creative soul I need to nurture my dreams’
Dreaming on the Page Writer’s Showcase
Featuring Maria Carla Cernuto
When we combine dreams and writing we joyfully release the stories and poems that want to be expressed through us. the Dreaming on the Page Writers Showcase will be an occasional column where I sharing the work from writers who recently completed the Dreaming on the Page writing courses. Each piece is selected because, like a memorable dream, it contains beauty and meaning that’s too good not to share.
Dream Dowser
inspired by Wendell Berry and Mary Oliver
To be a creative soul I need to nurture my dreams
I must make a place for all forms of artistic expression – music, writing, and the visual arts.
I depend upon long periods of peaceful seclusion.
I must shun self-criticism and self-judgment.
I don’t know why I’ve suffered through artistic droughts,
But I know how to dowse my dreams to get the flow of creative inspiration going again.

Artist’s Statement‘Dreams are my wellspring of inspiration’Dreaming has served as my wellspring of inspiration since childhood, conjuring up themes and images for poetry, storytelling, and artwork. As the pandemic emerged in 2020 I was in the midst of selling a house while building another. Dream recall was sporadic despite being a once prolific dreamer, and during that year I wrote nothing. In January 2021: I had this dream: I am in school and a teacher is encouraging me to pursue writing over the summer. She instills confidence and I’m excited to write using dream and occult themes. The following March I saw an ad for Dreaming On The Page. I took two terms, one over the summer just as my dream depicted, and my dreaming and creativity returned. This piece was composed during the course, inspired by one of Tzivia’s writing prompts, which sums up the synergy of dreaming and creativity for me. –Maria |
