Updates from a month of multiplying media
Lessons from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice 🧹
As hard as I try to streamline my life, including my online presence, it just doesn’t seem to happen.
I started a Substack newsletter a few years ago to replace my Mailchimp newsletter.
Which was fine. Except that then I realized I needed to have two separate Substack newsletters. One with information about dreams and writing, and another one where I could feature my poetry about the biblical matriarch Sarah.
🧹🧹
And that was well and good, too.
Except that the purpose of Substack newsletters is to share writing and promote community. So I still needed to keep Mailchimp for when I wanted to market products or programs. So, I kept that platform, too, too.
But surely, I thought, Substack would replace my website blog.
Except that in the end, I kept the blog, too, so folks who don’t subscribe to my newsletters can access the resources and updates that I share on my website, where my blog is hosted.
🧹🧹🧹
You get the picture, right? It’s a bit like that scene in Fantasia where the brooms keep dividing.
And that, my friends, is quite telling.
Because I first watched that scene from Fantasia as a child of four years old, curled up on the couch in front of the the hulking box of a television in the den of my childhood home. That same night I had a nightmare that I remember to this day. In that dream, instead of multiplying brooms, multiplying Micky Mouse dolls amassed into a terrifying (to a 4-year-old) army.
Which in turn catalyzed my lifelong fascination in dreams.
Which brings us back to my current dilemma:
I’m a dreamer, whose ideas multiply like the Sorcerer’s Apprentice’s brooms.
And what kind of sorcery must I conjure to simplify my online presence?
🪄🪄🪄
Maybe my next dream will inform me. In the meantime, read on to catch up on what’s coming up and what’s been going on here at Third House Moon.
June was a full and vibrant month:
- I reflect on my time in Santa Fe working with dreams, art, and writing HERE.
- I offered two presentations at the International Association for the study of Dreams annual conference (virtual) this year, one on creating Soul Vows through dreams and collage, and the other on the lessons I’ve learned from my recurring dog dreams.
- The first excerpt from my translation of Sarah’s story from biblical Hebrew into poetic and restorative English was published! 🎉🎉🎉 Read about that HERE.
- I attended the Westhampton Library’s “Lounging for Literacy” event and pet a pony and sold my dream cards, books and journal!
