Welcome to My Renovated (Virtual) Home
“I contain multitudes.”
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass
Maybe it was that book I read about Tidying Up that made me finally say Enough! It was high time to clean up not only my apartment, but my digital house as well. I had 5 Facebook pages, 4 blogs, 3 web sites, and more email accounts than I could reasonably keep track of. I simply had to decide which to toss and which to save.
I contacted a business consultant, who listened to my litany of sites and pages, and my tale of overwhelm. After an awkward pause she said, “I don’t know how to put this politely, so I’m just going to say it: You’re a mess!” Okay, that wasn’t exactly what she said, but it sure is what I heard. In any case, she then challenged me to corral all of my energy and vision into One Message. One Web Site. And a heck of a lot less of everything else!
Easier said than done. As my favorite poet Walt Whitman also says, “I am not contained between my hat and boots.” In other words, I am all over the place! Or at least that’s how I felt as I tried to consolidate my online presence. I have many interests and each one seemed to need its own spot in the virtual cosmos: There’s my passion for dreams, my practice of mindfulness-based paths to Joy, there’s my career as an author and a poet. Oh, and then there’s my identity as a teacher of all these things. But after hours of conversation, contemplation, and reams of notes on legal pads…I got it. I uncovered a single message that unites all of my interests, expertise, and passions, and I could sum it up in two words:
Wake Up!
I want to wake myself up so I don’t sleepwalk through life, and I want to help wake others up, too. For me waking up means many things, including waking up to the simple joys of being alive, and also waking up to the full breadth of consciousness and awareness that’s available to us every day — and night! Dreams, writing, and mindfulness are my ways to do that.
And so, I welcome you to my recently renewed, refreshed, and revitalized website. I hope you enjoy your time here, and that you leave knowing where to return when you, too, want to wake up to the wonders of your life and feel renewed, refreshed and revitalized!
Enjoy!
